Bagels....in Providence

Bagels are one of P's fave breakfast foods - naturally before I left for New York she took me to her fave spot Bagel Gourmet. Here they do a fine selection of sweet and savoury bagel sandwiches, but also a wide selection of burritos, baked goods and just about any kind of bottled drink you could wish for.
Pumpernickel with lox and lox cream cheese (US$8.25)
I going to make a confession.
I chose the bagel purely because of its colour - though it turns out I loved the slight bitterness of the pumpernickel with the savoury smoked salmon and cream cheese filling!

P was very happy with her staple of an everything bagel with egg, cheese and sausage (US$4.63)

Popeyes, HKIA

Date of Dining: 22nd July 2010
Popeyes @ Hong Kong International Airport, Chek Lap Kok
A six-hour stop-over flight from Singapore back to Hong Kong and two (not so good) in-flight meals later..... we were finally back at the Chek Lap Kok airport..... After baggage pick-up it was 9pm and I was up for some Popeyes!! It was actually my time trying Popeyes, and I never fully understood why people loved it so much until now. I've honestly been missing out this whole time! [but to be fair its not as if I go to the airport that often]

We shared a two piece fried chicken set ($52) which came with a buttermilk biscuit, cajun fries and a soda. The two pieces could be specified, and I asked for both to be breasts, one spicy and the other non-spicy. Both turned out to be non-spicy as the unenthusiastic lady behind the counter clearly forgot to put in my request... ohwell this was good anyway. It was served on the bone and the batter was well-seasoned, slightly peppery and really crispy to the point where you could hear us crunch away on these things =). And even though we had gone for the all white-meat breast part, it retained its moisture throughout the cooking process and it was not the least bit tough or chewy.

The buttermilk biscuit was ordinary, crumbly and soft but too plain for me.... I'd rather eat a sweet scone. The fries were bad tonight (not that I would've enjoyed them even if they were hot and crisp which these were not), probably because they had been sitting in the kitchen awhile - ours was a sad soggy pile.

I'm now wondering when I can visit Popeyes again for some fried goodies.... but next time I shall go a la carte!

Ebeneezer's

Date of visit: 3rd July 2010
Ebeneezer's @ Ashley Road
After (window) shopping around, S and I started feeling hungry. I suggested Ebeneezer's for old times' sake, plus told her about the added staff to TST's branch where they would serve you just like they do in a restaurant, minus the service charge. Great she said, and so we went.

This was my Chicken Tikka Rice. I normally really like their chicken tikka but today's was a tad dry and hard for me. The rice was the soft and fluffy Indian basmati kind, which I love. Despite the slightly dry chicken I still (almost) cleared my plate though!

This was S's Chicken tikka kebab with the yogurt and mint dressing. The texture of the chicken tikka I suspect was the same, but perhaps being wrapped in the flatbread with the yogurt and mint dressing would help moisten the chicken a little? S also finished her kebab to her stomach's content =)

beneezer's was smart to introduce more staff, lowering unemployment rates - yayyy. The one Chinese male (I am guessing the manager) was very friendly as well, making sure customers were happily seated quickly and menus / food delivered to them. Would I come here more often? Perhaps, if I am craving for kebab, but for yummy Indian food I'd rather go to the many Indian restaurants nearby!
