Jasmine Place

Jasmine Place @ Central

Jasmine Place has never disappointed from the several visits i've made here, and tonight's casual family gathering did not disappoint either. In light of the winter season they had a special menu for winter specials...

special menu

another page of their special menu

"deep-fried mantou"
This was a really random dish on their specials menu, but who doesn't like deep-fried buns? excellent right out of the fryer and dipped in condensed milk.... one of my favourite childhood breakfasts!

"lobster with hand-made noodles"
thin-cut hand made egg noodles as a bed in a casserole with fried lobster pieces
this was very well seasoned, like a drier version of the lobster e-fu noodle dish seen in a lot of places.

"beef cheung fun"
we ordered this because all of the claypot rice dishes (on both regular and winter menus) had sold out completely. the cheung fun was very tasty, with adequate 'wok hei' to first fry them, and the beef mince and gravy on top complimentd the cheung fun pieces very well, with a hint of heat from the chilies.

"braised mutton brisket in casserole"
with chinese black mushrooms, bamboo shoots, beancurd sheets and water chestnuts
this is a winter must-have dish for me, and the version here was definitely good. the stew was tasty and the meat incredibly tender. other components like the beancurd sheets, chinese mushrooms, water chestnuts were also tasty, having soaked up the sauce of the stew - all perfect with rice.  if you like this dish, give jasmine place a shot.

"steamed tofu with assorted seafood"
the seafood on top is clearly the frozen variety which ain't the best but beneath the seafood and gravy there's a layer of silky-smooth steamed egg custard with diced tofu in it which is quite enjoyable

"steamed spotted garoupa"
size was smaller than expected, but since it arrived last and by then we were pretty damn full we let it slide. The fish was steamed almost to perfection - the flesh flaked easily and was soft. the soy sauce and oil was also a good harmony of saltiness with the fish.

"kai lan fried with ginger sauce"
nicely cooked, stems retained crunchiness and a good amount of ginger was used.

"pea shoots in superior stock"
since pea shoots are only available during winter i order it whenever i can eating out... the ones here were first stir-fried to bring out the flavour and then stock added for the salt element. the greens were tasty and fresh and very healthy.

I quite like Jasmine Place for a casual dinner, for they send out consistently good food at economical prices. If you haven't tried this branch at Jardine House, please do!
