Catalunya - Sunday brunch with a lot of spectacle and excellent service

Catalunya was definitely one of the hottest restaurants to open in Hong Kong last year - so for a Sunday lunch I gathered my folks for a stuff-yourself-silly meal...

menu

pa amb tomaquet
manchego, assorted cured meats including ham and chorizo, asparagus and salt cod brandade salad at the back.
blurry jamon.
Salmon, mussels, smoked mackerel, white anchovies, smoked anchovies
large asparagus, esqueixada, mixed tomato salad, paprika dusted ham, pickled vegetables and cauliflower and raspberry skewer.
Smoked eggplant and pepper salad, asparagus and truffle mayo

"trampo" omelette - with tender potatoes, onion and studs of morcilla
Estrellados with mushrooms
"deconstruction" omelette - a deconstructed version of the Spanish staple, with a creamy egg foam on top of a meaty sauce...
Bikini sandwiches - mozzarella, iberico ham, black truffle

clams "a la basca"

Segovian style suckling pig
super tender pork...
lamb thigh
salt crusted sea bass, tartare sauce

dessert offering

more sweets....

Chocolate mouse with olive oil, sea salt and crunchy bread

chocolate orange bar, pistachio biscotti
Catalonian mato cheese with a layer of orange-honey
Passionfruit panna cotta
They set up brunch to have various interactions - most would start of with the food stations and the bread selection including a Spanish staple, tomato bread, then you may move on to the selections in which you order (Spanish tortilla aka 'trampo' omelette, deconstructed omelette and bikini sandwiches are definitely must-trys). If you're still good to go, wait for the show where loud music comes on and staff bring out the show-stoppers of whole suckling pic, fish, lamb and veal shank and serve them to each table as you like. Last but not least, the sweet treats come out and these are definitely something not to be missed. My favourites? The sour berries with fresh whipped cream and the rich chocolate mousse with olive oil sea salt and crouton.

At $590 (not including alcohol) this is one of the better brunch buffets in my opinion for one simple reason - lots of variety with good execution of dishes.
