Tea at Lobby Lounge

Lobby Lounge @ Intercontinental Hong Kong

Not long after my visit at the Four Seasons' Lounge I came for afternoon tea at the Intercontinental.
we went with the set for two, and had the iced coffee (fantastic - the ice cubes are frozen coffee) and a sencha (Japanese green tea).

Intercontinental Afternoon Tea Set for Two ($428), comes with two coffee or teas.
Top tier: cream, apricot jam and earl grey jelly (would've liked the jelly to be more strong with earl grey flavours)
Middle: sweets (see below)
Bottom: As my friend was vegetarian for the month (CNY), we asked for half of them to be vegetarian and they kindly agreed, but had to repeat some. I liked lobster mayo with a dollop of caviar, and the mascarpone with truffle best.

basket of scones - two raisin and two plain
Hmm... they were warm alright but soft, sort of like how baked goods get after microwave treatment. These were quite disappointing indeed in terms of texture and flavour.
pineapple eclair, chesnut-chocolate panna cotta cake
Pineapple eclair was a nice surprise - very distinct pineapple pastry cream on the inside!
The chesnut flavoured panna cotta was alright, seeing as I'm not a fan of chesnuts, but my friend enjoyed it.

chocolate cake, strawberry shortcake and lemon tart
The chocolate was definitely my favourite - layers of feullentine, chocolate mouse, chocolate cake, and crunchy chocolate balls and finished with ganache and crushed cookies, this cake was not too sweet and definitely chocolatey! I only wish this were on the regular all day menu.
The strawberry shortcake was good, though nothing spectacular.

Lemon tart was very enjoyable. The thin pastry had a nice crunch and the lemon filling was not too sweet and had a good dose of lemon.
mango mousse
Just when we thought we were done we were served these cold mango mousse - eating this in summer would definitely be ideal.
What intercontinental hotel's pastries have over the many other afternoon teas in Hong Kong are the quality and taste of the sweets. The sweetness levels are perfect, flavours come through, and taste "fresh" - nothing soggy, nothing feels like it had sat around for ages waiting to be served, all was good.

As I write this I am keeping a mental note to visit again for the a-la-carte pastry/dessert items!

Food: ♥ for sweet items, ♥ for sandwiches, ♥ 1/2 for the scones

I like their a la carte desserts here a lot more than the overall Tea Set too lol...

Don't tell them I said that :D But I guess not that many places are doing a drop dead gorgeous Arvo Tea nowadays - at least they're on the right track with the sweet stuff (though it could sometimes be too sweet still)
